About MEP

​The Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), established in 1953, has been a key contributor in supporting the economic and development agenda, while contributing to shaping Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The Ministry aims to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth by accelerating the pace of economic diversification efforts, supported by key principles that include productivity growth, innovation, increased economic complexity and greater international collaboration.

MEP plays a key role in ensuring integrated and coherent planning through analyzing the economic environment on the national, regional, and sectoral levels. It contributes to forecasting, target-setting, prioritization and optimizing resource allocation. MEP champions policies designed to create equal opportunities, enhance social welfare and encourage shared prosperity. MEP also supports evidence-based decision-making by enhancing the quality and availability of data and research, conducting impact assessments, monitoring economic performance, and developing capabilities and human capital.
