Brief History
Bureau for Economic Affairs
The Ministry's history began in 1370 AH, when His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Saud bin Abdulaziz established the Bureau for Economic Affairs within the Ministry of Finance.
Ministry of Economy
In 1372 AH, a royal order was issued to establish the Ministry of Economy after the Bureau for Economic Affairs expanded its duties.
Ministry of Finance and National Economy
In 1374 AH, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance were merged to form the Ministry of Finance and National Economy.
Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee was established by Resolution No. 7725 to formulate a long-term plan for economic development and increased national income.
Supreme Council for Planning
Following the end of the economic crisis, the Supreme Council for Planning was formed to replace the Committee.
Central Planning Authority
Despite its success, the Council faced challenges that ultimately led to its dissolution in 1384 AH. As a result of these challenges, the Central Planning Authority was formed.
Ministry of Planning
After many years of developmental effort, the Planning Authority was transformed into a Ministry in 1395 AH.
Ministry of Economy and Planning
Within a few decades, the Kingdom saw visible progress, contributing to the paradigm shift from 1424 AH to the present.
